Behind this piece
Banaras has woven gold into silk for over five centuries, its looms fed by a tradition that once dressed Mughal courts and temple deities alike. This saree carries that lineage in every thread: a continuous all-over zari pattern of floral triangles, a motif rooted in the butidaar vocabulary of Varanasi's weaving quarters. The contrast pallu and border are a signature Banarasi device, designed to frame the drape as a complete composition. Rendered here in art silk with metallic zari, it makes the ancient grammar of Banaras accessible without diminishing its visual authority.
How to style
For a festive evening, pair the Merlot or Barbados Cherry with a raw-silk sleeveless blouse and gold jadau earrings. The Lilac Rose responds beautifully to silver oxidised jewellery and strappy block-heeled sandals for a wedding reception look that reads contemporary yet considered. For Rain Forest, try a deep-green or ivory velvet blouse and antique gold bangles stacked at the wrist. Tap Shoe, the deepest near-black, suits a structured full-sleeved blouse in contrast ivory, worn with pearl drops, for formal occasions or evening cultural events.
Fabric & care
Art silk carries zari with grace but requires a careful hand. Dry-clean only; home washing risks distorting the metallic threads and weakening the weave structure. Never wring or twist. If steaming is needed, hold the iron at a distance and work on the reverse side, using a pressing cloth. Store the saree folded in a soft muslin cloth, never plastic, and refold along different lines every few months to prevent permanent crease marks. Tuck a small sachet of dried neem leaves nearby to deter insects without chemical residue.
