the story,

Behind this piece

Varanasi's weaving tradition stretches back through centuries of Mughal patronage, when the city's looms first learned to speak in gold. The all-over zari bootis on this saree follow that unbroken grammar: small, repeating motifs scattered across the field like stars held in place by discipline. The floral vine border and pallu introduce a contrasting rhythm, a signature of the Banarasi idiom where the ground and the frame tell separate, complementary stories. Woven in art silk, the fabric carries the luminous drape that made Banaras cloth the preferred choice of courts and celebrations alike.

to wear it,

How to style

For a winter wedding, pair the Tawny Port colourway with an antique gold Kundan choker and ivory raw-silk blouse with full sleeves. The Alpine Green suits a festive daytime function beautifully; wear it with a sleeveless pistachio silk blouse and oxidised silver jhumkas. Cadmium Yellow demands confidence: match it with a deep bronze brocade blouse, kolhapuri heels, and a single gold kada. All five shades respond well to a classic Bengali-style drape, which allows the floral vine pallu to fall long and be seen fully.

to last,

Fabric & care

Art silk carries zari threads that weaken under heat and friction, so dry-cleaning is the safest first choice. If hand-washing, use cold water with a mild pH-neutral detergent; never wring or twist the fabric. Lay flat on a clean cotton towel to absorb moisture, then air-dry in shade. Before storing, fold along established lines with a sheet of acid-free tissue between each fold to protect the zari from tarnishing. Keep inside a breathable muslin bag, away from direct sunlight and moisture, and air the saree every few months.
