the story,

Behind this piece

Amritsar has long been a city where commerce and craft are inseparable. Its textile tradition, shaped by Punjabi artisans who mastered the power loom alongside hand-finishing techniques, gives birth to pieces like this dupatta: art silk threaded through with zari in a continuous hibiscus jaal. The floral repeat, dense and hypnotic, draws from the Mughal garden vocabulary that travelled through North Indian weaving centres for centuries. The cerise, chili pepper, and rhodonite colourways carry the particular boldness of Punjabi craft, where colour is never shy and the loom speaks in full sentences.

to wear it,

How to style

Drape the cerise dupatta across an ivory or ecru kurta set for Diwali gatherings, letting the zari hibiscus carry the occasion's weight. The chili pepper variant pairs beautifully with a deep teal or forest-green sharara, anchored by gold jhumkas and kolhapuris. For the rhodonite colourway, try it pinned at the shoulder over a fitted anarkali in dusty rose, worn to an intimate festive lunch. Each shade rewards contrast. Avoid matching the dupatta too precisely to the base garment; the jaal is the statement and deserves room to speak.

to last,

Fabric & care

Art silk carries the lustre of silk without its fragility, but it still rewards careful handling. Hand wash in cool water using a mild, pH-neutral detergent, keeping agitation gentle and brief. Do not wring or twist; press the water out softly and roll the dupatta in a clean cotton towel before air-drying flat, away from direct sunlight, which can shift the depth of cerise and chili tones over time. Store folded loosely in a cotton muslin bag. Avoid plastic. Steam lightly to revive the drape before wearing. The zari needs no special treatment beyond keeping it dry.
