about the piece,

Description

Some silks carry the memory of a city in every thread, and this Banarasi saree is precisely that kind of quiet inheritance. Woven in the tradition of Varanasi's celebrated brocade ateliers, it features an all-over floral jaal worked in meticulous repeat across the length of the fabric, a pattern language that Banarasi weavers have refined across generations. The art silk ground lends the weave a luminous drape and a gentle sheen that catches light without demanding attention. Across its three considered colourways, grayed jade, harbour gray, and peach beige, the palette speaks to a sensibility that prefers subtlety over spectacle. The restrained ground colours allow the brocaded motifs to surface with an elegance that reads beautifully at festive gatherings, formal lunches, and cultural occasions where understated dressing is its own kind of statement. Pair it with a contrast blouse in raw silk or dupion to let the jaal take precedence. A single strand of polki or pearl jewellery will honour the weave's own ornamental vocabulary without overreaching.

the story,

Behind this piece

Banaras has woven its myths into cloth for centuries, and the jaal is among its most enduring gestures. A continuous, all-over lattice of brocaded florals, the jaal pattern speaks to the Mughal-influenced vocabulary that took root in the looms of Varanasi's Ansari weaver community and never left. Here, that vocabulary is rendered in art silk, a fibre that captures the luminous surface of pure silk while remaining accessible for everyday ceremony. Six colours, from the blush warmth of Cashmere Rose to the still depth of Grayed Jade, each carry the pattern with quiet authority.

to wear it,

How to style

For a daytime puja or festive family gathering, drape the Lily Green or Peach Beige in a classic Nivi pleat and pair with a raw silk blouse in ivory. Anchor with gold jhumkas and kolhapuri flats. For an evening reception, choose Harbor Gray with a deep-necked, full-sleeved blouse in charcoal and add oxidised silver cuffs. The Cream Gold colourway suits a mehendi or haldi ceremony beautifully, worn with a mustard blouse, glass bangles stacked to the elbow, and pointed juttis in antique gold.

to last,

Fabric & care

Art silk is sensitive to water and friction; always opt for dry cleaning to preserve the brocaded jaal's raised texture and the fabric's sheen. If hand-washing is necessary, use cold water and a gentle, pH-neutral detergent, and never wring or twist the cloth. Dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which can shift the colour over time. Store folded in a soft muslin cloth, avoiding plastic, and place a single neem leaf or cedar block nearby to deter insects. Re-fold along different lines each season to prevent permanent crease marks.

Each piece is hand-picked from artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Some are handloomed on traditional pit looms, others use block-printing, hand-embroidery, or heritage techniques passed down through generations. Small irregularities are part of the character — not a defect.
