Behind this piece
Zardozi is one of the most labour-intensive of India's embroidery traditions, its name drawn from the Persian words for gold and needlework. Practised with particular refinement in Lucknow and Bhopal, it was the preferred embellishment of Mughal court dress, worked with metal-wrapped threads, sequins, and fine wire on luxurious ground fabrics. Here, the craft arrives on pure chiffon in a cool aqua-sky, the zardozi motifs placed with restraint along the kameez to let the sheer fabric breathe. The result is formal weight carried with genuine lightness.
How to style
For a Diwali gathering or a post-wedding brunch, pair this suit with strappy gold kolhapuri heels and a single polki choker that echoes the metallic zardozi. If you prefer a more contemporary register, wear it with pointed-toe nude mules and a thin gold kada, nothing more. For festive travel, carry a silk tissue dupatta in ivory or pale gold rather than the matching chiffon, which will add textural contrast without competing with the embroidery. Keep the silhouette close; the churidar is already drawn in at the ankle, so let it speak.
Fabric & care
Pure chiffon is a delicate weave and deserves deliberate handling. Dry-clean after each occasion wear; do not hand-wash, as the zardozi metallic work can tarnish or loosen when submerged. If light freshening is needed between wears, steam gently from a distance of at least fifteen centimetres. Store the kameez flat or loosely rolled in soft muslin, never on a wire hanger, which distorts the shoulder line. Keep away from direct sunlight, which fades aqua-toned chiffon quickly. Wrapped correctly, this suit will hold its colour and structure across many seasons.
