Apricot-Gelato Floral Aari Embroidered Georgette Saree from Kashmir
Hand-wash gently with mild detergent. Do not wring. Dry in shade, iron on the lowest setting.
Description
Somewhere between a Kashmiri summer and a confectioner's dream, this saree finds its quiet, unhurried beauty. The base is georgette, a fabric known for its gentle drape and the way it holds light without demanding attention. Across this apricot-gelato ground, Aari embroidery traces its flowering language: the hooked needle moving in rhythms perfected over generations in the Kashmir Valley, coaxing fine threads into blooms that feel almost alive. Aari work, rooted in the craft traditions of Srinagar and its surrounding artisan quarters, requires a stillness of hand that no machine has yet been able to replicate. The floral motifs here carry that unhurried quality, each petal a small commitment, each tendril evidence of time given willingly. It is a saree suited to occasions that deserve a certain grace, a family gathering, a festive afternoon, a wedding where the welcome is warm and the light is golden. Pair it with unpolished gold jewellery and a silk blouse in ivory or warm cream. Let the embroidery carry the conversation.

Behind this piece
Aari embroidery takes its name from the hooked needle that Kashmiri craftsmen have used for centuries to coax silk thread into flowering gardens across fabric. Rooted in the Dal Lake valley and the workshops of Srinagar, this tradition flourished under Mughal patronage and has been passed down through families in Bohri Kadal and the old city quarters. Here, on a weightless apricot-gelato georgette, the needle traces petals and tendrils with a fluency that no loom can replicate. Each motif is pulled from the same visual vocabulary that once adorned the courts of Kashmir.
How to style
For an intimate wedding lunch, pair this saree with a champagne-ivory raw silk blouse and kolhapuri heels in nude leather. A delicate kundan choker and small drop earrings will hold their own without competing with the embroidery. For a festive evening, try a deep bronze blouse and antique gold jhumkas that warm the apricot tones further. For a garden reception or daytime ceremony, a strapless fitted blouse in ivory organza keeps the silhouette modern, finished with rose-gold kadas and strappy block heels in tan.
Fabric & care
Georgette is a twisted-crepe fabric that responds poorly to agitation and heat. Dry-clean this saree after each occasion to protect both the fibre and the Aari embroidery, whose silk threads can snag in water. If pressing is necessary, use a cool iron on the reverse side only, with a thin cotton cloth between iron and fabric. Store the saree rolled in a soft muslin cloth rather than folded sharply, to prevent crease lines forming across embroidered areas. Air it briefly before storing, and keep it away from direct sunlight to preserve the apricot colouring.
