the story,

Behind this piece

Block printing on cotton carries centuries of memory in its repeat. The chakra motif, a wheel of continuous movement, appears across the textile traditions of Rajasthan and Gujarat, where artisans have pressed carved wooden blocks into indigo-dyed grounds since the Mughal period. The Aegean blue here echoes the cool mineral tones of the Ajrakh tradition, where natural dye baths were drawn from indigo, pomegranate rind, and iron. A short kaftan silhouette reimagines this ancient surface language for unhurried modern dressing. Each impression of the block is a small act of precision passed through generations of printing families.

to wear it,

How to style

Wear it over wide-leg ivory linen trousers for a rooftop dinner in the early monsoon. Cinch a natural hemp or jute rope belt at the waist to shape the silhouette without disturbing the print. For beach holidays or a coastal morning walk, pair with flat kolhapuri sandals and a single oxidised silver bangle. Come autumn, layer over a slim ivory cotton kurta beneath, adding a block-printed dupatta in a complementary saffron tone. Keep jewellery restrained: a pair of small silver jhumkas will always serve this ground colour beautifully.

to last,

Fabric & care

Pure cotton breathes and softens with every careful wash. Launder in cold water by hand, using a mild, pH-neutral detergent to preserve the depth of the printed blue. Avoid soaking for longer than ten minutes, as prolonged immersion can cause printed pigments to bleed at the edges. Dry flat in open shade, never in direct afternoon sun, which gradually lifts mineral-based tones. Do not tumble-dry. Steam or press on a medium heat with a pressing cloth between iron and fabric. Store folded, not hung, to protect the cotton grain over seasons of wear.
