Georgette Long Embroidered Skirt with Batik Print and Lace
Hand-wash gently with mild detergent. Do not wring. Dry in shade, iron on the lowest setting.
Description
Some garments carry the memory of two traditions at once, and this skirt is one of them. Rendered in fluid georgette, it brings together the resist-dyed vocabulary of batik, a craft with deep roots in the textile corridors of central and coastal India, and the delicate layering of lace along its hem. The batik print is applied by hand in a process that requires wax and patience in equal measure, leaving behind the characteristic soft bleed of colour that no digital reproduction can quite imitate. Embroidery traces its way across the surface with a quietness that feels considered rather than decorative. The georgette itself moves with the body, catching light without announcing itself, which makes the skirt as suited to an afternoon gallery visit as to a festive evening at home. Available in Azure Blue, Deep Lavender, Gray Lilac, Peach Pink, and Shell Pink, each colourway brings a different mood to the same silhouette. Pair it with a handwoven cotton kurta in an undyed ivory for a textural conversation between the two fabrics. A simple kolhapuri sandal completes the look without competing with it.

Behind this piece
This skirt brings together two distinct Indian textile traditions on a single length of georgette. Batik, with its wax-resist origins tracing back through Gujarat and the Malabar coast, lends the fabric its characteristic bloom of colour and quiet irregularity. Laid over this is a lace border, a detail refined through generations of needle-work across the ateliers of Bengal and Rajasthan. Georgette itself, weightless and perpetually in motion, was chosen precisely because it carries embroidery without stiffness. The result is a skirt that holds craft history loosely, wearing it as temperament rather than costume.
How to style
In Azure Blue, pair this skirt with a white chanderi blouse and kolhapuri chappals for an afternoon at a craft exhibition. For an evening gathering, the Deep Lavender reads beautifully beneath a sheer organza kurta in ivory, finished with oxidised silver jhumkas. The Peach Pink and Shell Pink colourways suit a destination wedding worn with a tucked-in cotton-silk top and block-heeled sandals. Across all colours, a delicate temple-motif necklace in gold tone adds the right weight without competing with the lace hem. Keep the silhouette easy and the accessories considered.
Fabric & care
Georgette is a twisted-fibre fabric prone to snagging and distortion if handled roughly when wet. Hand wash separately in cold water with a mild, ph-neutral detergent, using minimal agitation. Do not wring. Lay flat on a clean cotton towel and reshape before drying in shade, away from direct sunlight, which fades the reactive batik dyes over time. Iron on a low heat setting with a pressing cloth placed between the iron and the fabric to protect both the embroidery and the lace border. Store folded loosely in a breathable muslin bag.
